The effects of daylight are exhilarating and energising. The results are due to longer days, and shorter nights. Naturally, our body goes into a perk-up mode, as if there are a good supply of energy in the reserve tank!  This new power gives a perfect opportunity to revive those little fingers to catch up on crochet.

This is the final week of ‘5 Easy crochet projects‘.  Hopefully, you have been affected by the power of daylight too. This stripy pot cover is an excellent idea to use up scraps of yarn. Try to mix and match your favourite colours for a colourful look.

You will need:
Cotton DK weight
I have used: Patons cotton DK
(Yellow) A
(Fuschia) B
(Pink) C

Crochet Hook: 3.50mm
Tapestry needle
A pair of scissors

Abbreviations:
adjustable magic ring
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
tr – treble
st – stitch
ss – slip stitch
beg – beginning
*() – repeat instructions within brackets
Rnd – round
RS – right side
WS – wrong side
Finished measurements: base across 7.5cm (3in) height 8cm (3.3in)

Step 1: Pot cover
Using yarn A, make an adjustable ring.

Rnd 1: ch-1, 10dc into ring, ss into first st at beg of rnd to join =10sts.
Rnd 2: ch-3 (count as 1tr), 1tr in same st, 2tr in each of next 9sts, ss into first st at beg of rnd to join =20sts.
Rnd 3: ch-3 (count as 1tr), 1tr in same st, 2tr in each of next 19sts, ss into first st at beg of rnd to join =40sts.
Rnd 4: ch-3 (count as 1tr), 1tr in each of next 2ts, 2tr in next sts, *(1tr in each of next 3sts, 2tr in next), rep *() 8 times more, ss into first st at beg of rnd to join =50sts.  This forms the base of the pot.

Rnd 5: Work in BLO (back loop only). Ch-3, 1tr in each of next 49sts, ss into first st to join in in new yarn =50sts. Do not break yarn A – leave it dangling.

Tip: To join in new yarn: work until last st on previous rnd, when ss to join, draw in new yarn B to join.  Repeat this procedure each time you join in a new yarn. This will avoid too many yarn tails.

Rnd 6: Work as normal. With new yarn B, ch-1, 1dc in first st, then continue to work 1dc in each of next 49sts, ss into first st to join in new yarn =50sts. Do not break yarn B – leave it dangling.
Rnd 7: With new yarn C, ch-3 (count as 1tr), then work 1tr in each of next 49sts = 50sts, ss into first st at beg of rnd and draw in yarn A.
Rnd 8: With yarn A, ch-1, 1dc into first st, work 1dc in each of next 49sts =50sts, ss into first st at beg of rnd and draw in yarn B.
Rnd 9: With yarn B, ch-3 (count as 1tr), work 1tr in each of next 49sts =50sts, ss into first st at beg of rnd and draw in yarn C.
Rnd 10: With yarn C, ch-1, and 1dc into first st, work 1dc in each of next 49sts =50sts, ss into first st at beg of rnd and draw in yarn A.
Rnd 11: With yarn A, ch-3 (count as 1tr), work 1tr in each of next 49sts =50sts, ss into first st at beg of rnd and draw in yarn C.
Rnd 12: With yarn C, ch-3 (count as 1tr), work 1tr in each of next 49sts =50sts, ss into first st at beg of rnd and draw in yarn A.
Rnd 13: With yarn A, ch-1, 1dc into first st. Work 1dc in each of next 49sts =50sts, ss into first st at beg of rnd and draw in yarn B.
Rnd 14: With yarn B, ch-3 (count as 1tr), work 1tr in each of next 49sts =50sts, ss into first st at beg of rnd and draw in yarn C.
Rnd 15: With yarn C, ch-1, and 1dc into same place. Work 1dc in each of next 19sts, miss next 5sts, and continue to work 1dc in each of next 20sts, miss next 5sts, ch-9, and then ss into first st at beg of rnd and draw in yarn B.
Rnd 16: With yarn B, ch-1, and 1dc into first st. Work 1dc in each of next 19sts, work 12dc around the ch-9 (created in previous round). Continue to work 1dc in each of next 20sts, and then work 12dc around the next set of ch-9, ss into first st at beg of rnd to join. Fasten off, leaving approx. (13cm/5inch).

Step 2: Assembly
Turn work inside out.  Tighten adjustable ring, and weave in all yarn ends.  Use fingers to press the base (on rounds 4-6) of the pot to create a firm edge.
